David M. 'Bucky' Buckwalter, age 88, Denver, East Cocalico Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; formerly of Adamstown, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at 8:36 PM in Lancaster General Hospital Born in East Cocalico Township, a son of the late Milton G. and Maggie (Ludwig) Buckwalter, he was a 1946 East Cocalico High School graduate and a Korean War Army veteran. Bucky farmedduring High School, worked on the Pfautz Green Grocer Truck, served as Stevens Post Office postmaster 1954-84, andin retirement workedat Weaver's Markets, Adamstown. At St. Paul's Evangelical Congregational Church he was 1989 Layman of the Year, Lay delegate to both theannual general conferences, Sunday school teacher and board member. He servedon Adamstown borough council and was Mayor from 2004-13; Past president chaplain of Lancaster County Chapter of Postmasters and member of National Association of Postmasters; Life member of Stevens Fire Company where he was past president, secretary, chief, assistant chief and chief driver; Captain of the Fire Police; longtime secretary of the Ludwig Family Association; and past president of the Mellinger's Cemetery board. Surviving are children, Deborah S. Zerbe, Denver; Nancy Hackman, Ephrata; Barry, married to Patricia (Sanders) Harting, Stevens; grandchildren, David, Douglas II, Mindy, Melissa, Elizabeth Emily; great-grandchildren, Landon, Tyler, Kiley, Mya, Lorelei, Evan, Christian, Madison, Josephine Norah. He was predeceased by his wives, Thelma A. (Althouse) Buckwalter, on March 14,1985; and Betty J. (Kring) Harting Buckwalter, on September 10, 2014; and also a sister, Kathryn Sweigart; and brothers, Elmer Richard Buckwalter. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 26, at 4 PM in St. Paul's E. C. Church, 46 E. Church St., Reamstown, PA 17567-0275, with Rev. Kirk R. Marks Rev. J. Theodore Rathman officiating.The viewing will be held from 1 to 4 PM at church. The graveside committal servicewith military honors will be on Monday, March 27, at 10 AM in Mellinger's Cemetery, Schoeneck.
