Galen S. Bixler, age 90, of Adamstown, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, March 16, 2014, in Denver Health & Rehabilitation Center, Stevens, Lancaster County, PA. Born in West Lawn, Berks County, PA, a son of the late Martin L. and Edna M. (Sweigart) Bixler, he was the husband of Georgean (Youndt) Bixler for 60 years. Galen was a World War II Navy veteran serving in the Pacific and worked 30 years for Carpenter Technologies, Reading, PA, last as a supervisor in the melt shop. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Swartzville, a life-member of the Adamstown VFW and Rod & Gun Club and enjoyed archery hunting. Also surviving is his son, Craig Y. Bixler, Reading, fianc" of Gina Hackman; grandsons, David and a sister, Ruth S. Sulima, Rockledge, FL. Siblings Catherine Schlegel and Warren Bixler predeceased him. A memorial celebration of Galen's life will be held on Friday, March 21, at 11:00 AM from Peace UCC, 37 East Swartzville Road, Denver, PA 17517, with his pastor, The Rev. William E. Hoch, officiating. Private inurnment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown, prior to the memorial service. Rather than flowers, contributions may be sent to the church at the above address.
