Julius F. Uribe

Julius F. “Cookie” Uribe, 83, of Ephrata, PA, and formerly of Perth Amboy, NJ, passed away peacefully at Hospice & Community Care in Mt. Joy, PA. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rosalie Hawaka Uribe, son, Scott G. Uribe, husband of Gloria, daughter, Lori, wife of Bruce Pauser, and two grandsons, Justin and Brandon Pauser. Born in Perth Amboy, NJ, Julius was the son of the late Julius G. and Antoinette Stryshak Uribe. He graduated from Perth Amboy High School in 1957, Newark State College (Kean University) in 1962 with a B.A. in Secondary Social Studies, and from Seton Hall University in 1971 with a M.A. in School Administration and Supervision. Julius was a lifelong educator and member of the Perth Amboy School District. He taught the Fourth Grade at School #10 in Perth Amboy and then was a Social Studies Teacher and Department Chairperson at Perth Amboy High School from 1967-74, where he also coached Varsity Baseball and Varsity Bowling. From 1974-1980, Julius served as Vice-Principal of Perth Amboy High School and then moved to the S.E. Shull School from 1980-86. As a Principal, Julius headed Perth Amboy School #7 from 1986-90 and the William C. McGinnis School from 1995-98. Julius retired on July 1, 1998, after 36 years of service to Perth Amboy Public Schools. Julius was active in his retirement as a member of Kern University’s faculty, first as an Adjunct Instructor from 1998-2000 and then as a Clinical Instructor at the Kean University Professional Development Schools in Hillside and Woodbridge from 2000-2002. His current position, held since 2002, was as a Clinical Instructor at the Matthew Jago Professional Development School in Woodbridge, New Jersey. Julius was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Perth Amboy (Vice Pres. 1996-97), New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Assn., the National Associations of Elementary School Principals and Secondary School Principals, Perth Amboy Administrators and Supervisors Assn., Middlesex County Administrators and Supervisors Assn. and County Coaches Assn., New Jersey Federation of Umpires, American Federation of Teachers, and the Perth Amboy Board of Education. Julius was a former member of St James Catholic Church in Woodbridge, NJ and after moving to Ephrata, PA was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church of Ephrata. Julius loved baseball and played all the way up to the college level, playing first base at Newark State University. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family and are under the care of Paul L. Gravenor Home For Funerals, Ephrata, PA.
