Maudie Witwer

M. Marguerite "Maudie" Witwer, 96, of Reinholds, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center. Born in Bowmansville, Maudie was a daughter of the late Charles E. & Lovella M. (Wise) Snader. Maudie was a member of St. John's Center Lutheran Church in East Earl where she formerly sang in the choir. She loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. While raising her sons, Maudie worked as a secretary for Hartings Bakery in Bowmansville and Shir-Lee Manufacturing. She also worked as an EMT with the Fivepointville Ambulance and in the concessions at Maple Grove Raceway. Her final role was as a caregiver at Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center. Maudie was quick witted and smart; she could add numbers faster than a calculator. She was a baseball enthusiast and in her early years she played on the Wildcats girls' team with her sister; she was the pitcher and Janie was the catcher. Maudie was adventurous and independent. In the late 60's she began riding motorcycles, a true pioneer in women's riding. She loved telling stories of her days riding motorcycle. Family was important to Maudie; she loved her sons and grandchildren dearly. Maudie is survived by her son, Jan M. Witwer, husband of Rhonda (Grieb) of Leesport; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Darlene Peterson. She was predeceased by a son, Neil Witwer and sisters, Pauline Petersheim, Josephine Clause, & Jane Sweigart. A graveside service will be held on Fri., Aug. 18th at 11:00 a.m. at the Bowmansville Union Cemetery, 160 Church St., Narvon, Pa.
