Rev. Robert F. Harting, age 92, of Denver, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, January 16, 2016, in Fellowship Community, Whitehall, Lehigh County, PA. Born in Knauers, Berks County, PA, the oldest son of the late Phares G. Harting, Sr. and Sadie R. (Glass) Harting;his wife of 59 years, Althea M. (Rollman) Harting, died November 29, 2005. Bob was a 1941 Shillington High School and 1944 Franklin Marshall College graduate. Early influence at Muddy Creek UCC, Adamstown, prompted him to enter the ministry, graduating in 1946 from Lancaster Theological Seminary. That same year he married and was ordained in his home church. He accepted his first parish, St. John's UCC, Larimer, where his determination, hard work ethic and commitment grew a young congregation. In 1950, he was called to St. Peter's UCC, Zelienople; and in 1955 to St. Paul's UCC, Kutztown. Christ Church UCC, Temple, was his calling in 1967 where he remained until retirement in 1988. Among his accomplishments at Christ Church were placing stained glass windows in the sanctuary, building the new educational wing and the installation of the 18 rank Reuter pipe organ. Bob was known for his God given talent of speaking from the heart with a great presence and ease, his liberal approach to theology, and the relationships he built with his members. He continued part-time at St. John's UCC, Denver, and as interim pastor of Peace UCC, Swartzville, where he celebrated 50 years in the ministry. Surviving are his children, Betsy J. Harting, Whitehall; and her daughter, Lauren; Scott F. Harting, married to Trudy Savey, Wellsville, NY, and their daughters, Amy Beth, Kristin Danielle; and Timothy R. Harting, married to Greta Wolf, Ephrata; and their sons, Jeremy Jason; and a brother, Philip Harting, married to Carolyn Brendle, Adamstown; and numerous nieces nephews. Brothers, Carl, William, Thomas Phares, Jr. predeceased him. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 AM from Christ Church United Church of Christ, 4860 Kutztown Road, Temple, PA, 19560, with Rev. Dr. Harry L. Serio officiating. Viewing from 10 - 11 AM at the church. Graveside services will be Thursday at 2:30 PM in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown.
