Richard R. "Cotton" Gensemer

August 19, 1924 — May 5, 2014

Richard R. "Cotton" Gensemer, age 89, of Denver Borough, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, died Monday, May 5, 2014, at 5:05 am in Ephrata Manor. Born in Denver, he was a son of the late Wesley and Anna (Rutt) Gensemer, and was the husband of Fern O. (Miller) Gensemer for 66 years. A 1941 Denver High School graduate, "Cotton" was a WWII Air Force radio gunner who was honored by President Franklin D. Roosevelt for his squad's precision attacks on Italy. He was the last of his bomber squad. He worked as a meat cutter with Shober & Sons Meats, Denver, and Weaver"s Store, Blainsport. Richard was a member of Salem Evangelical & Reformed Church, Reamstown, and life member of Denver Fire Company and the Ephrata American Legion. He was a founding member of Fugawie Hunting Camp, Lycoming County and enjoyed hunting, fishing and many sports during his life. Also surviving are daughters, Dixie Stewart, Reading; & Angela Schwartz, Brison City, NC; a grandson & 6 granddaughters; and a sister, Hazel Hornberger, Ephrata. His son, Scott L. Gensemer, died April 27th. All arrangements are private at "Cotton"s" request with inurnment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
