Thelma A. Luckenbill, age 85, formerly of Reamstown, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, died Wednesda, May 14, 2014, at 9:15 AM at Landis Homes, Lititz, PA, where she resided since November 2003. Born in Denver, Lancaster County, a daughter of the late Irwin M. and Florence (Heiser) Petery, her husband, John W. Luckenbill, died May 14, 1986. Thelma was a life-long active member of St. John"s United Church of Christ, Denver, where she sang in the Choir, taught Sunday School and served as Sunday School Superintendent and worked on many other church committees. Retiring in 1992 as a Merchandiser from F. W. Woolworth Middle Atlantic Distribution Center, Denver, she was also employed by MGS, Inc., and Cinderella Knitting Mills. Thelma played on the girl"s basketball team and graduated from Denver High School in 1947. She was a founding member and president 1973-75 of the Denver Woman"s Club and enjoyed traveling, playing pinochle and being supportive to her many friends and church members. Surviving is her daughter, Cynthia A., wife Michael Novak, Athens, PA; her son, John G., partner of Stephen Klunk, The Villages, FL; grandsons, Dr. Matthew Novak, Waverly, NY, and Jeffrey Novak, fianc" of Alison Stern, Athens; sisters, Dorothy Demming, Lancaster; Edith Moyer, Carlisle; & Shirley (Dale) Kemper, Denver; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Luckenbill, Columbia; & a brother-in-law, Oliver Sholmartin, Denver; and nieces and nephews. 3 sisters & 4 brothers predeceased her. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 19, at 10:00 a.m. in St. John"s United Church of Christ, 659 S. 4th Street, Denver, PA 17517, with her pastor, The Reverend David Brumbaugh, officiating. At Thelma"s request, there will be no viewing, however, the family will receive friends Monday 9 to 10 am at the church. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Ephrata.
