Albert O. Gilgore Sr.

Albert O. “Al” Gilgore Sr., 88, of Stevens, passed away on Saturday, January 11th, 2025, at the WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. Born in Christiana, Al was a son of the late Charles & Lucinda K. (Chandler) Gilgore. Al was the loving husband of Louise E. (Mohler) Gilgore for 54 years until her passing in 2019.

Al Gilgore was a 1956 graduate from Scotland School for Veterans’ Children and later served in the Navy for 4 years. Following his service, Al met the true love of his life, Louise, and there was rarely a moment they spent apart. Al was a hard worker and a true family man who dedicated over 40 years as a driver salesman at K&W Tire. When he wasn’t working, you could catch him on the beach in Ocean City, Maryland with his family or in the bingo hall next to his wife.

In his spare time, he loved playing cards with his son and friends, reading a good book, or doing any challenging mind puzzles. Al was incredibly smart and never said no to a sweet treat. You could always catch him with a bowl of pie and ice cream while watching his favorite sports on TV. Most importantly, Al valued his family more than anything. He will be greatly missed as he touched the lives of so many. His family will carry his memory and cherish the thought of him reuniting with his wife in peace.

Al is survived by three children, Albert (Cheryl) Gilgore, Jr., of Ephrata; Fran (Brad) Peffer, of Hampstead, North Carolina; Lucinda (Sharky) Wilson, of Stevens; 12 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; & three siblings. Along with his wife and parents, Al is proceeded in death by eight siblings.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a celebration of life service to start at 11:00 a.m. at Good Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, Inc., 34 N. Reamstown Road, Reamstown (Stevens), PA 17567.
