Alvin L. Showers

Alvin L. Showers, 86, of Ephrata, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Magnolias of Lancaster. Born in Lancaster and growing up in Akron, Alvin was a son to the late Arthur & Violet (Showers) Heil and the loving husband to Janet (Rohrbach) Showers for 66 years.

Alvin was a graduate of Ephrata High School, class of 1955. His very first job was as a licensed barber and maintained his barber license for many years. He later held roles in banking, working for the former Farmers National Bank in Ephrata as a Teller and then as the Branch Manager in the Lincoln branch office. Alvin was a very sociable person, he enjoyed being with people, which was a natural fit to work in sales and he became the Assistant Sales Manager of Fleet Air Shoes in Ephrata and then for the men’s store at the former Donecker’s. An avid golfer, Alvin enjoyed golfing with friends and periodically with his wife. He loved music, particularly smooth jazz and big band swing. He enjoyed being outside, meticulously caring for his yard, and had a knack for doing his own landscaping. Most of all, Alvin loved his family and adored his three grandchildren. He will forever be remembered for his easy spirit, kindness, and strong work ethic.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Tammy Heinbaugh (Mark) and Shari Haelig; three grandsons, Jeffrey Haelig, Matthew Haelig (Rachel), and Patrick Heinbaugh (Brandi Deangelo); two step grandsons, Eric Heinbaugh (Liz Cady) and Aaron Heinbaugh (Julie); one great grandson and three step great granddaughters; and two siblings, Joan Groff and Tina Behney (Chester). Alvin was predeceased by one sibling, Jerry Heil.

The family would like to thank the dedicated and caring staffs of Magnolias of Lancaster and Hospice and Community Care, Lancaster.

Services will be private, and Alvin’s final resting place is Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata, Pa.
