Barbara Jeannette Germer entered into rest at Hamilton Arms Center, Lancaster, PA on January 20 at age 92. She was wife of Frederick J. Germer of Mt. Joy, PA who predeceased her in June 2002. She was born on March 14, 1932, the daughter of the late Clarence Raber Miller and Rosmarie Barbara (Kamm) of Lebanon and Lancaster, PA. Barbara had previously lived at Evergreen Estates and various locations in Lancaster and Ephrata. She had worked as a postal clerk for the US Postal Service, Watt & Shand Department store and Postal Express Park City. She was the last operator on duty at Denver & Ephrata Telephone Co, Ephrata, PA.
Barbara’s right eye was removed at Will Eye Hospital in Philadelphia when she was a six-year-old child because of a malignant tumor. She did not let this prevent her from living a full and active life.
Barbara graduated with the Class of 1950 from J. P. McCaskey High School. She had been a member of the Willow Street Baptist Church and performed as the card minister for her church. She had also served as Secretary and President of Watt & Shand Social Club. Barbara enjoyed genealogy, mystery novels, crossword puzzles and Swedish embroidery. She was a good cook who enjoyed gathering family and friends around her table. Barbara was a prolific letter writer to friends, family and even the local newspaper editor, making her opinion known on a wide range of topics.
The following siblings predeceased her: George Daniel Miller, Lancaster, PA, Charles Russell Miller (husband of Mildred Habecker), Pennsville, NJ, Mona Elizabeth Miller (Jay Lehn), Tempe, AZ, Carlyn “Connie” Ann Miller Chase, Pawling, NY.
Barbara is survived by her youngest sister, Arlene Chase (widow of James Moore) of Reading, PA, a half-brother, James C. Miller (Nina) of Fairview, TN. and a daughter, Bunny J. Delnero (widow of William Delnero) of South Pasadena, CA. She is also survived by three step children and their families, numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, to whom she was beloved Aunt Babu. Barbara will also be missed by her dear friend of 55 years, Gloria Ansell of Ephrata, and cousins Margaret Devaney and Ann Williams.
Interment will be privately held at Bergstrasse Lutheran Cemetery, Ephrata Township, PA. Arrangements by Gravenor Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, Inc., Ephrata.
