David D. Daugherty

December 19, 1931 — October 12, 2023

David Dean Daugherty, 91, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Mt Hope Nazarene Retirement Home. He was born December 19, 1931, in Rochester Indiana to the late Harry H. and Mabel I. (Garman) Daugherty and was the Husband of Helen (Hirneisen) Daugherty with whom he shared 72 years of marriage.


David was a man of many talents. He had a passion for cars and was known for his expertise in appliance repair. He also provided sound systems for church, concerts, local fireman's carnivals and Ephrata Fair events. After retirement, he delivered medications for a local pharmacy into his late 80’s. David enjoyed interacting with people on his travels at work.


David will be remembered by his family and friends as hard-working, gentle and kind. He will be deeply missed.


David graduated from Ephrata High School in 1949. He was a dedicated member of Ephrata Church of the Nazarene, where he taught Sunday School and served on the board.


In addition to his loving wife, Helen, David is survived by three children, Lynette (Mike) Brown of Ephrata, Denise Ashton of Millersville, and Dwight (Dawn) Daugherty of Ephrata; sister, Janice (Glenn) Burkholder of Ephrata; eight grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.


He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Ralph Daugherty, Joan Roether, and Donna Batz.


A private graveside service is planned for the family.
