David Porter

July 11, 1962 — January 3, 2022

David Michael Porter, 59, of Stevens, passed away at home on Monday, January 3, 2022. He was a son of the late David J. & Peggy Lou (Flickinger) Porter and the loving husband of 38 years to Kathie Lin (Werner) Porter. Dave grew up in Womelsdorf and was a graduate of Conrad Weiser High School, class of 1980 and attended Lincoln Technical Institute. He began working for MetEd in 1982, now First Energy, where Dave was a supervisor and valued employee in communication technologies for 39 years. He was a man of faith, a member of LCBC Church, where he would serve in "Sunrise Point", the 6mo - 2yr old church nursery. A devoted Scoutmaster for over 10-years, Dave led the Boy Scouts' Reamstown Troop 60 while his sons were growing up. Dave was always very active and enjoyed kayaking at Blue Marsh and OBX. He also rode in the MS (Multiple Sclerosis) bike rides for 15 years, biking 150 miles for MS awareness. Dave took pride in his 300 and 299 bowling scores; he formerly bowled in local leagues. Family was everything to Dave. He loved big family vacations to Hershey Park, Busch Gardens, OBX, and Ocean City, NJ, always telling stories of former vacations and making plans for the next. Dave was the catalyst of family projects, he had a fun, inclusive way about him that made everyone want to join in. He was generous, always willing to help, loved his family with his whole heart, and cherished his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Dave is survived by three sons, Josh Porter (Liz) of Reinholds, Andy Porter (Jess) of Stevens, Mike Porter of Denver; six grandchildren, Gabe, Delaney, Xander, Caiden, Carson, & Jackson; a brother, John Porter of Wernersville; a nephew, T.J. Harrison; father-in-law, Jake Werner (Judy); brother-in-law, Dave Werner (Jean); a niece Danielle Kegal; a nephew, Matthew Werner; and canine pal, Tessa. Dave was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Kim Harrison. Please NO Flowers due to family allergies, memorial contributions to Reamstown Troop 60, 166 Ebersole Rd., Ephrata, Pa 17522. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 13th from 5 to 6 p.m. and a Celebration of Life service will begin at 6 p.m. at the LCBC Ephrata Campus, 6 Hahnstown Rd., Ephrata, Pa 17522.
