Deborah S. Zerbe, 69, of Denver, passed away Tues., Sept. 6, 2022, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Ephrata, she was the daughter of the late David M. & Thelma A. (Althouse) Buckwalter and the loving wife of Douglas L. Zerbe for 38 years until his passing in 2012. Deb graduated from Cocalico High School, class of 1970 and earned her RNBS from Albright College. She dedicated her career to the nursing profession, working 20 years at the Lancaster County Behavioral Health & Developmental Services. She had also worked at the former Denver Nursing Home, in the ICU at Reading Hospital, and in Agency Nursing. In all her nursing roles, she was an advocate for the wellness of all patients and a mentor to fellow nurses. Deb was influential in local and worldwide missions. Her desire to spread the good news of the gospel was endless. She was involved with programs such as puppet ministry and sending barrels of good to Kenya and Liberia. She was a faithful member of St. Paul's E.C. Church in Reamstown and was devoted to their 'Simply Missions' program. Deb loved singing the old hymns and collected nativities. She was also a Star Trek fan, loved Disney, enjoyed the Dutch Apple Theater, and liked watching football cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. Deb could cook for an army, there was always room for more and plenty for all! Her post-holiday Christmas Soup was always a favorite, practically even better than the Christmas meal itself. Deb was the founding author of the family famous 'Zerbe Zoo', a periodic letter that she would send to extended family, friends, missionaries, and special acquaintances, consisting of encouraging messages and updates about her family. All her life she loved St. Bernards and horses. Deb lived out her faith, always putting others before herself. Deb is survived by two sons, David C. Zerbe (Rebekah) of Millersville and Doug L. Zerbe II (Rachael) of Denver; five grandchildren, Landon Zerbe, Evan Zerbe, Lorelei Zerbe, Emile Bruckhart (Dylan Sechrist), Ethan Bruckhart; two great grandchildren, Skyelin Sechrist & Caeden Sechrist; a bonus-brother, Barry Harting and bonus-sister, Nancy Hackman. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sat., Sept 10th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's E.C. Church, 46 E Church St, Reamstown (Stevens), PA 17567. Deb's final resting place is at Mellinger's Cemetery, Schoeneck. In memory of Deb, contributions are appreciated to St. Paul's E.C. Church - Simply Missions, P.O.
