Dennis Rowe

February 4, 1943 — March 7, 2025

Ephrata

Dennis B. Rowe, 82, of Ephrata, transitioned at home on March 7th, 2025, comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

Dennis was the husband of Susan (Nonamaker) with whom he shared 49 years. Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Bruce and Sylvia (Sweigart) Rowe.

After graduation from Middletown High School, Dennis served his country aboard the U.S.S. John Paul Jones in the United States Navy. Following his discharge, he worked for over 25 years as an over-the-road truck driver. He especially enjoyed the years he rode with his good friend Terry.

Dennis would want everyone to know that he enjoyed life. His message to you would be to take the risk – laugh often and louder than anyone else, never stop learning or trying new things and most important – BE HAPPY! Forgive and forget for life is too short. Remember that no problem has been resolved by worrying.

Before and following his retirement, Dennis enjoyed many things; trips to Montana and Glacier National Park with his wife where he learned his love of nature and photography; time with Sue and his “second family” at the Berks Jazz Fest and other jazz and blues venues in the area; many happy years on the three-wheel motorcycle (especially riding to the west coast and up the Pacific Coast Highway 10 years ago with Sam); skydiving with his son, Jeff; an serving his community as a member of the Ephrata Borough Zoning Hearing Board for 15 years.

Dennis enjoyed trying strange foods and believed the spicier the food the better it was. He was thrilled when Matt would stop by with new varieties of hot peppers to try. This therapy was target shooting with Phil, whose friendship he cherished.

Because of his similar appearance, Dennis would sometimes be asked for a quote for a newspaper article following Ephrata Borough Council meetings. He enjoyed joking with Mayor Mowen about that.

Dennis found something to love in everyone he met and was quick to befriend anyone.

In addition to his wife, Dennis is survived by two sons, Jeff, Companion of Brenda Tadych; David; his previous wife Virginia (Dupes) Daugherty; a sister, Sharon L; two grandchildren; and several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be private at the request of the family, but following Dennis’ wishes, a party will be held to celebrate his life. Dennis’ final resting place will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate your support of one of the local first responder organizations, the Ephrata Pioneer Fire Company, The Lincoln Fire Company, or the Ephrata Community Ambulance Association. Also, please consider remembering Hospice and Community Care in Lancsater with a gift or donation.
