Dorothy H. "Dottie" Burkhart, age 89, of Akron Borough, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, died unexpectedly on Friday, September 4, 2015, in personal care of Ephrata Manor. Born in West Earl Township, Lancaster County, a daughter of the late Ivan and Annie (Haines) Snader, her husband of 63 years, Melvin E. Burkhart, died March 20, 2013. A graduate of Empire Beauty School, Reading, she owned & operated Dottie"s Beauty Shop, Akron, for 55 years. A member of Muddy Creek Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday school and served on the altar guild. Dottie cherished her family and attending the grandchildren"s activities. Simply mentioning her grandchildren brought a smile to her face. She enjoyed trips to the mountains and beach and was a long-time member of Order of Eastern Star. Surviving is her daughter, Linda (Lee) Gerhart, Denver; sons, Kirby (Sheila Stricker) Burkhart, Ephrata; & Scott (Jan Brandt) Burkhart, Denver; grandchildren: Justin, Mandy, Chrystal, Jim, Josh, Melissa, Ashley, Travis, Kirsten, Kortni and great-grandchildren: Payton, Jaxon & Wesley. A twin brother, Denton Snader, and sisters, Helen Long & Kathryn Krafft, predeceased her. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at 11 AM from Muddy Creek Lutheran Church, 11 South Muddy Creek Road, Denver, PA 17517, with The Rev. Peter Schwabe-Fry officiating. Burial will follow in Muddy Creek Cemetery. The viewing will be on hour prior to the service at church. Rather than flowers, contributions may be sent to her church or Ephrata Manor Benevolent Fund, 99 Bethany Road, Ephrata, PA 17522.
