Earl R. Walmer

May 23, 1938 — April 18, 2024

Earl R. “Dutch” Walmer, 85, of Akron, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024, at StoneRidge Retirement Community in Myerstown. Born in Ebenezer, Earl was a son of the late Elmer D. & Bertha M. (Reigle) Walmer. He was the loving husband of Arlene M. (Keenan) Walmer for 25 years until her passing in 2007.

Earl graduated from the Scotland School for Veterans' Children Marker, class of 1956. Following high school, Earl enlisted in the U. S. Army as military police from 1961 to 1963. After his time in the military, Earl worked in the printing industry for the formerly known Lancaster Press for many years, then worked for the Manheim Auto Auction as a fun job until he finally retired. Earl was involved in multiple groups such as the Amvets, Moose International, and a Charter Member of IOOB Chapter #358. He enjoyed following the high school sports teams, even traveling to watch the games. Earl loved to golf and watch the horse races in his free time. He gardened frequently and entered his Pawpaw trees to the Ephrata Fair, winning many blue ribbons. Earl would bake and take those goodies to his neighbors, friends, and family, but his skills in the kitchen only improved with Arlene’s help and expertise. Earl’s kind and loving personality will be dearly missed by all of those he met.

Earl is survived by three stepchildren, Debra West of York, Douglas Chaney of Quarryville, Kevin Chaney of Mohrsville; and two sisters, Marian Lancaster and Arlene McCleaf. Earl is predeceased by a stepdaughter, Kathy Freeman; and seven brothers, Robert Walmer, Elmer Walmer, Eugene Walmer, Herbert Walmer, Walter Walmer, and Harold Walmer.

Earl’s final resting place will be with his wife, Arlene, at Indiantown Gap Cemetery, Annville, Pennsylvania.

Graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 25th, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Indiantown Gap Cemetery, 60 Indiantown Gap Rd, Annville, PA 17003.
