Elizabeth Charles

Elizabeth “Betty” Charles, 95, of Cornwall, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023. Born and raised in Ephrata, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Fannie (Wissler) Shreiner, and wife for 61 years to the late Robert L. Charles until his passing in 2015.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Ephrata until she and Robert moved to Cornwall Manor ten years ago. She worked as a registered nurse for the Ephrata Community Hospital and the Denver Nursing Home. Betty was also a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ephrata, and she enjoyed spending time volunteering with the Ephrata Food Bank and delivering meals for Meals On Wheels. Her love and generosity will be missed.

Elizabeth Charles is survived by daughter, Patricia A. Maier of Lebanon; grandson, Yale Maier of Lebanon; and nieces & nephews. In addition to her husband, Betty is predeceased by brothers, Jacob and J. Marlin Shreiner.

Betty’s family would like to express their gratitude for the staff at Cornwall Manor where she received excellent and loving care.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 25th, at 1:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 319 Wabash Rd, Ephrata, PA 17522.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 167 E. Main Street, Ephrata, PA 17522.
