Eric L. Flicker, 75, of Savannah GA, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31st, in Lancaster General Hospital with his loving wife of 40 years, Gerry Ann (Hopkins) Flicker, by his side. Eric fought a courageous battle after being diagnosed with Bulbar onset ALS in 2024. Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late William L. and Doris L. (Rothermel) Flicker. A graduate of Fleetwood Area High School class of 1967, he went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and his MBA from Lehigh University graduating summa cum laude. A member of the Glee Club at Lehigh led to church choir and other coral groups throughout his life.
Eric’s professional career started at Spotts, Stevens, and McCoy in Reading in 1968 where he rose through the ranks and eventually became president. His career was rewarding and his impact vast as a civil engineer with extensive background in developing municipal infrastructure projects, his service to the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) family serving as a national Chairman, and in Pennsylvania, President of the Hazardous Waste Action Coalition. His career culminated with Pennoni Associates Inc. where he served as the Chief Financial Officer for 10 years and then moved into a Senior Consultant role that allowed him to serve on several national boards.
In 2006 he was named the Delaware Valley, PA, Engineer of the Year, as well as Civil Engineer of the Year by the American Society of Civil Engineers – Philadelphia section. In his leadership capacities he has met and held discussions with local, state, and national leaders up to and including George W. Bush.
He was also active in the community serving various boards like Habitat for Humanity, Philadelphia Education Fund, Public Citizens for Children and Youth, Philadelphia Scholars, and helping to lead Math Counts. He has been an active member of various churches in Fleetwood, Adamstown, and Savannah serving as an elected leader and a member of the choir.
An avid sports fan, Eric enjoyed Phantasy camp with the Phillies and was in the stadium when the Phils won both World Series titles in 1980 and 2008. He loved the Eagles and was happy to see another Super Bowl win, he followed Lenoir Rhyne sports and enjoyed playing golf wherever and whenever possible. He traveled across the pond with friends and enjoyed many rounds in West Chester, Cape May and Savannah and unfortunately never had a hole in one.
He is survived by his son Micheal, wife Kim (Zuzolo) Flicker of Hickory, NC and grandson Ryan Flicker of Charlotte, NC. Two step-grandchildren Patrick Dotson, Caitlin (Dotson) and her husband Kalem Kirby and four step great grandchildren Kash, Rhett, Palmer, and Denver.
