Ethel L. Horst

Ethel Leanna (Crouse) Horst, 98, of Lititz, died on Thursday, December 14th, 2023 at Brethren Village. She was born in Berks County January 26th, 1925 to the late Iran and Mary (Schlosser) Crouse. Ethel was married to the late Walter Horst of Ephrata on March 11th, 1944.

Ethel was a beautician for 27 years after attending the Kendelle School of Cosmetology. She owned her own salon in Ephrata called “Ethel Horst Beauty Shop”. She and Walter were house parents for the Milton Hershey School for seven years. She attended Ephrata Church of the Brethren and was a member of the New Life Assembly of God in Lancaster. Ethel was employed by Club Demonstrators of San Diego California as a sales advisor and food demonstrator at Costco’s in Lancaster. Ethel retired from RCA Electronics in Lancaster in 1987. Ethel was an avid bowler and played the piano and organ in her free time and for church. Her fun and loving spirit will be missed.

Ethel is survived by a son, Leonard L. Horst, husband of Wanda Maple, of Sequim, WA; two grandchildren, Rebecca and Leonard Jr.; and three great grandchildren, Connor, Parker, and Catline.

In addition to her husband, Ethel was preceded in death by five brothers, Webster, Mervin, Arthur, Galen and Alton Crouse.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, Dec. 21st at 10:00 a.m. at Gravenor Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, Inc., 100 West Main Street, Ephrata, PA 17522. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Following service, a graveside service will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Ephrata, PA.
