Evan A. Flory, 90, formerly of Reamstown, PA, passed away due to cancer on Friday, July 20, 2018, at United Zion Retirement Community in Lititz, PA. Evan was born in West Cocalico, PA on December 15, 1927, to Dallas Flory and Mary Elizabeth (Weber) Flory. He was the loving husband of the late Fern L. (Steely) Flory of Denver, PA, a marriage that lasted 60-plus years until her death in 2009. He was raised on a farm during the depression era and always said that although they were dirt poor while growing up, they never had to go without food or a roof over their heads. His appreciation for farms and the farm life never left him. After serving in the U.S. Army, he worked as a welder, welding farming equipment at New Holland Machine Company for many years until he retired at age 58 after having quadruple bypass surgery. Evan spent a significant part of his life caring for his severely handicapped daughter Teresa. People often remarked how he and his wife Fern managed to care for Teresa in such a way and length of time that few others could ever do. He was an avid reader, loved dogs, caring for his house, helping others and chatting with friends and family. He was an amazingly independent guy who resided in the house that he built in the late 50's until just a few weeks before his death. He lived a simple life, never complaining or wanting for much. Surviving are his son Kevin Flory, husband of Debra (Keene) of Lancaster, granddaughter Kristin (Flory) Duca wife of Mike Duca of Pittsburgh, grandson Kyle Flory of Lancaster, PA, and great-grandson Gavin Duca, also of Pittsburgh. Also surviving is Evan's sister, Betty Jane (Clark) of Ephrata, PA. In addition to his parents and his wife, Evan was predeceased by his daughter Teresa Lynn Flory and two brothers George Daniel and Silas Posey Flory. Friends may call at the Paul L. Gravenor Home For Funerals, 100 W. Main Street, Ephrata, PA, on Friday, July 27, 2018, from 10 to 11 AM. A Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 11 AM. Interment will take place following the service at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 531 N. State Street, Ephrata, PA.
