Gateworth James

Gateworth James, 62, of York, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in All Saints, Antigua, Gateworth was the son of the late Walter and Christiana (Drew) James and was the husband of the late Jeanne (Finefrock) James. Gateworth worked as a drywall finisher in Carpentry for most of his career. He was a talented musician and enjoyed singing and playing his guitar. He loved riding around in his red Ford Ranger and his family has fond memories of when he drove it. Gateworth was easy-going, understanding and loved to have conversations with his family and friends. Above all else, spending time with his children, grandchildren, extended family and numerous friends was important to him. Gateworth is survived by four sons, Emmanuel James of Lancaster; Nayquan James of York; Issiah James of York; Elijah James of York; grandchildren Zaiden and Jonathan; siblings Walcott Steele, Emelda Isaac, Lemuel James; Brenda Farrell; Rosalind Matthew; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his 2 brothers, Blatchford James and Edwin (Paget) James; and a nephew, Lionel James. Services are private with a final resting place at Mellinger's Mennonite Cemetery.
