Remembering George... George Paul Lightcap, 83, formerly of East Cocalico Township, Lancaster County, died Wednesday morning at 8:56 AM in Heatherbank Nursing Rehabilitation Center, Columbia, Lancaster County, where he resided since January 14, 2004. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late John A. and Elizabeth (Bright) Lightcap. A former resident of Reading, he played baseball for many years in various leagues, had been offered try-outs with two major league teams, and later coached several leagues in Berks County. Lightcap served as a Corporal in the Army during World War II during which he was assigned to entertaining fellow troops with boxing matches and playing baseball. He retired in 1998 after 14 years with Dorma Door Control, Inc., Reamstown. Previously he had retired from Aluminum Alloys, Sinking Spring, and had also worked at ITT Grinnell, Columbia. George also enjoyed fishing and was an avid collector of old cowboy movies. Surviving is a daughter, Mary Ann (Lightcap), married to Albert Getz, Maytown, PA; a son, Tracy, married to Sandra (Bucca) Lightcap, Fleetwood, PA; a step-daughter, Elna (Scott), married to Glen Yoh, Reading; a step-son, Joe Scott, Jr., Lancaster; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several step-grand and great-grandchildren; a brother, William, husband of Sandra Lightcap, Columbia, PA; and a sister, Ruth (Lightcap) Heck, Shillington, PA. In addition to his wives he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mildred (Lightcap) Chase and Sarah (Lightcap) Houck, and 2 brothers, John Lightcap and Roy "Barney" Lightcap, Sr. Viewing Service A viewing will be held on Monday, April 5, 2004, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM from St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Queen Street, Maytown, Lancaster County, PA. The service celebrating George's life will begin at 11:00 AM with The Reverend Robert Lescallette officiating. The burial will immediately follow in Maytown Union Cemetery (adjoining the church), East Donegal Township, Lancaster County, PA. Military honors will be accorded by Red Rose Veteran's Honor Guard of Lancaster County.
