George R. Metzger

As We Remember George... George R. Metzger, 82, of 54 Moccasin Drive, Ephrata, Lancaster County, died in his home Wednesday evening at 10:40 PM under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County. Born in Lancaster, he was a son of the late Leon W. and Beatrice (Dougherty) Metzger, and was the husband of Shirley M. (Beers) Grumbine Metzger for 26 years. He was a member of Akron Church of the Brethren, Akron, Lancaster County. He retired in 1986 from Federal-Mogul, Lancaster. Previously he was employed for 28 years by the former RCA Corporation of Lancaster. Metzger received a purple heart for being wounded in Corsica during his World War II Army service. He was a member of the Ephrata VFW and the Ephrata American Legion Post 429. George was an avid bowler during his lifetime and enjoyed boating. Surviving in addition to his wife are 2 sons, Richard R., married to Carol (Culliton) Metzger; and Dean, married to Rose (Stanczyk) Metzger, both of Lancaster, PA; 6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lou (Metzger), married to Dexter Sturgis, East Petersburg, PA. Also surviving is a step-son, Robert L., married to Elizabeth H. (Cooper) Grumbine, New Holland, PA; 2 step-daughters, Marie (Grumbine) McElhenny, Leola, PA; and Sandra (Grumbine), married to Randy Gordon, Manheim, PA; 4 step-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren. Viewing Service A viewing will be held on Tuesday morning, November 18, 2003, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM from George's church. The ceremony celebrating George's life will be held on Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM from Akron Church of the Brethren, 613 Main Street, Akron, Lancaster County, PA, with Pastor Tom Weber officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, East Cocalico Township, Lancaster County, PA. Contributions...
