Gerald E. Groff, 85, formerly of Fivepointville, passed away on Friday, April 11th, 2025, at Garden Spot Village Skilled Nursing Households. Born in Lancaster, Gerald was the son of the late Weidler S. and Cora (Rathman) Groff.
Gerald served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964, and furthered his education in computer training from the Automation Institute of America Inc. After his time in the U.S. Army, he used this experience to work on computers for Textile Machine Works in Wyomissing, and RCA in Lancaster. Gerald also owned and operated his own pallet manufacturing company named Groff Wood Products, where he worked passionately for 52 years until his retirement in 2021. Gerald was a member of the Reinholds VFW and Gouglersville Fire Company. An avid horseback rider, Gerald was also a member of the Friendly Horseman Club, and enjoyed many riding trips with friends, especially his close friend, Robin. Gerald was a hard worker and a “Jack of all trades”, building and selling homes and log cabins. Along with his love for horses, Gerald had a strong interest in cars and attending car shows. Gerald’s industrious spirit will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Gerald is survived by a sister, Sandra J. Mowrey; and four cousins, Ken & Barry Groff, Robert Dorsey and Clarence Rathman Jr.
