Remembering Howard with love... Howard W. Kern, 81, of 727 Alleghenyville Road, Mohnton, Berks County, died Saturday at 10:40 AM in Reading Hospital Medical Center, West Reading, Berks County, where he was a patient since May 14th. Born in Brecknock Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Wayne A. and Nora E. (Seifrit) Kern, and was the husband of Ellen N. (Zerbe) Kern for 57 years on August 24th. He was a member and past council member of Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church, Knauers, Berks County. Retiring in 1984, he was employed for over 30 years by Carpenter Technology, Reading, he was also a self-employed farmer for many years. Kern was an Army veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific. He was a life member of the Adamstown VFW and the Pennwyn Motor Association of Mohnton. He was a birdwatcher, hunter, Philadelphia "Phillies" fan and was an avid card player, especially pinochle and poker. Howard was also a member of the Bowmansville Golden Agers Senior Group Surviving in addition to his wife a 3 daughters, Judy E. (Kern), married to Michael P. Beaver; Susie J. (Kern), married to Randall G. Sanger; and Mary Ann Kern, all of Mohnton, PA; a granddaughter; 2 sisters, Mildred (Kern) Moyer, Honeybrook; and Meda Ann (Kern) Groff, Sinking Spring; and 4 brothers, Robert Kern, New Castle, DE; Eugene, married to Patricia (Orr) Kern, Narvon; Leon, married to Margaret (Blimline) Kern, Knauers; and Harold, married to Shirley (Drexel) Kern, Mohnton. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis H. Kern, and 3 sisters, Florence Brightbill, Virginia Stover and June Ansel. Viewing Service A viewing will be held on Friday morning, November 28, 2003, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM from Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1327 Alleghenyville Road, Knauers, PA 19540. The ceremony celebrating Howard's life will begin at 11:30 PM with his pastor, The Reverend Richard W. Chaveas, officiating. Burial will follow in Allegheny Union Cemetery, Alleghenyville, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Contributions...
