Isabel Sweigart, 81, formally of Ephrata and Akron PA, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Luther Acres in Lititz PA, where she resided for the past six years. Isabel was born on July 20, 1936, the daughter of late Miriam (Weaver) and Emile Gerard. She was the wife of the late Leon R. Sweigart, who passed away on February 4, 2012. Isabel was raised in Akron PA, and graduated from Ephrata High School, class of 1954. During her professional career, Isabel was the office manager of the General Cigar Company and retired from Farmers First Bank after 25 years of employment as a customer service representative. Isabel was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church in Ephrata, and she was a former member of the both the Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Ephrata, and the Ephrata Church of the Brethren. Isabel was a former member of the Cloister Chapter of Eastern Star, the Ephrata Lioness Club, the Ephrata Golden Years Club, and the Warner Lambert Retirees Club, where she served many years as the club treasurer. Isabel enjoyed volunteering, traveling, following the local sports teams, entertaining friends, and spending time with her family at their home in Rehoboth Beach DE. Isabel is survived by her daughter Gail Gross, companion of Dr. Gerald Willwerth of Chambersburg PA, and her son Kerry L. Sweigart, companion of Ava Earhart of Wyomissing PA. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Dr. Michelle Wilcox of Mount Pleasant SC, Christopher Gross, the husband of Jennifer Gross of Lititz PA, and Mackenzie Sweigart of Shillington PA, and one great-grandson, Christian Wilcox of Mount Pleasant SC. In addition to her husband and parents, Isabel was preceded in death by her brothers Floyd Horst, Kelso Horst, Richard Horst, and Paul Gerard, and her sisters Edith Horst and Emily Lied. Friends will be received at Hope U. M. Church, 3474 Rothsville Rd., Ephrata, PA 17522 on Monday, July 16, 2018 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will be officiated by the Rev. Jim Bongard. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata, PA. Isabel's family would like to thank the staff of Luthercare for the wonderful and compassionate care that had been provided to Isabel over the past six years.
