James B. "Jim" Huck

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James B. Huck, 72, Denver, PA. He died in his home on October 17, 2015, after a courageous battle with bladder cancer. Born in Reading, November 15, 1942, to James F. and Irene (Rathman) Huck, he shared 51 years of marriage with, M. Ann (Ziegler) Huck. Ann, originally of Hampton, IA, met Jim on a blind date. Adopting Ann"s home state team, the Iowa "Hawkeyes", he proudly displayed his love for them at every turn. Also surviving are his son, James B. Huck, Jr., Wyomissing; his daughter, Jennifer A., wife of Kevin Franckowiak, Leesport; and his sister, Joan Ferguson, Macungie. Jim attended St. Margaret School through 8th grade where he played basketball. He was a 1960 graduate of Central Catholic High School, where he played trumpet in the band and orchestra. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving in Washington, D.C. as a Radioman. Following his Naval service, Jim began employment at Western Electric, attaining 4 years of training at AT&T to become a tool and die maker, and retired from Lucent after 30 years & 9 months of service. From 1977-1994, Jim and Ann owned and operated Lullaby Day Nursery School East, East Reading, where he was fondly referred to as "Mr. Jim". He also enjoyed many years of antiquing and was a woodworker who handcrafted items which will be deeply cherished as family heirlooms. His grandfather and father managed Whitner"s Restaurant, Reading, therefore his love and flair for the kitchen was no surprise. The family enjoyed many samplings of his home cooked meals, including apple and peach pies. His grandchildren, Jordan "Babers", Taylor "Tator-Tot", and Brina "Beanie Baby" will miss his grilled cheese and tomato soup lunches, big breakfasts, as well as partnering with him for a mean game of Aggravation. He embraced any time spent with great-granddaughter, Payton. He excelled at solving crossword puzzles, enjoyed any opportunity to golf, had a tremendous sense of humor, was known for his honesty & integrity and, above all, his ability to provide for his family. Ever the Boy Scout, Jim was known throughout his community for helping others, which gave him an enormous sense of pride. Deeply loved, he will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who knew him.
