James E. Lorenz, 79, of Ephrata, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. Born in Chicago, Jim was a son of the late Edward A. & Frances (Gibbs) Lorenz and the loving husband to Cheryl L. (Luthy) Lorenz for 44 years. Jim was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. As a young man, Jim lived in the Midwest and found his true love Cheryl in Michigan and married her on June 2, 1979. In 1987 Jim followed the faithfulness of his father-in-law to plant a church and moved his family to Pennsylvania. For many years Jim worked as an Engineer for Hershey in Hazleton and most recently he worked in the bakery at Shady Maple. He enjoyed taking the baked goods to market. Jim's job at the bakery filled his heart with great friendships and his appetite for sweet treats. Jim and Cheryl enjoyed donuts and coffee together every Sunday morning before church. When Cheryl moved to assisted living, Jim made sure that the Sunday donut tradition didn't end. He would bring donuts and coffee to the home and together, they tuned-in online to the church service. Jim enjoyed working on electrical projects, his electrical knowledge was endless. He loved his church. He was a faithful member of the Reamstown Church of God where he served as an Elder and for over 20-years the church members were blessed by his warm welcome as a greeter. Jim loved his family and enjoyed the memorable trips to the Outer Banks and to his sister's lake house in Michigan. He was a jolly man, approachable, and caring. Jim was a loving husband and father, and the absolute best Poppy! In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by a sister, Char (Jim) Elliott of South Lyon, MI; two children, Tammy (Trent) Fowler of Elizabethtown and Todd Weaver of Stevens; five grandchildren, Mitch Brunner, Ashley Brunner, Addison Brunner, Carson Weaver, & Sophia Weaver; and sisters-in-law, Carol Mentzer (Dale) of Denver, Charlotte Bongard (Robert) of Mecosta, MI.
