John L. Zerbe, Sr.

April 25, 1930 — March 2, 2017

John L. Zerbe, Sr., age 86, Denver, Brecknock Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, entered into rest on Thursday, March 2, 2017, in Ephrata Community Hospital. Born in East Cocalico Township, a son of the late Joseph P. and Edna M. (Kramer) Zerbe, he was married 66 years to Mary E. (Burkenheiser) Zerbe. A member of Muddy Creek Lutheran Church, Denver, he retired from Bethlehem Steel Grace Mines, Morgantown, and was a terrific husband, dad, grandfather great-grandfather. John's life passions, in addition to family, were fishing, speaking PA Dutch, and listening to Polkas. He learned sign language to communicate with two siblings was a true friend, hard worker and offered a helping hand to anyone. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters, Barbara A., wife of George M. Wentzel, III, Denver; Beverly Frey, Harrisburg; grandchildren, Michelle, Melissa, Angie, Phillip, Alex Shane; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Guyula Sweigart, wife of Ammon Seifrit, Interlachen, FL; Dorothy, wife of Glen Allen Anderson, Williamsport, MD; brother, Clayton Zerbe, Denver. He was predeceased by children, John Jr., Jacob Lavern Bonita Ann; and 12 siblings. Funeral services willbe held on Saturday, March 11, at 11 AM from Good Funeral Home, Reamstown, with Rev. Peter Schwabe-Fry officiating. Burial in Muddy Creek Cemetery. The viewing will be Friday from 6-8 PM and prior to the funeral Saturday 10:30-11 AM.
