Lisa Buckles

d. June 20, 2022

Lisa A. Buckles, 60, of Denver, passed away Monday, June 20, 2022, in her home surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Camden, NJ, Lisa was the daughter of the late James & Lois (Mallenger) Smith and the devoted wife of 36 years to Ralph B. Buckles Jr. Lisa was a graduate of Shawnee High School, Medford, NJ, class of 1980. For many years, she loved her work at Camp Sankanac in Spring City, Chester Co. where she was the summer cook and lifeguard. Lisa was also a first aid and survival training instructor at camp, the Red Cross, and Body Zone in Reading. Lisa has had her CDL license for over 30 years, she loved being a school bus driver. She worked for Brightbill Transportation and over the years became a special needs transport instructor and an important part of operations, though never left the windshield for an office job. Lisa was a faithful member of St. Paul's E.C. Church in Reamstown where she volunteered on the safety committee. She loved the beach and all-things water - kayaking and Cape May were favorites. Lisa was certified as a High Adventure leader, teaching rough and wilderness camping and survival skills to many Girl Scout troops in central PA. Recently Lisa enjoyed international travel, visiting family and friends in Ireland whom she had met through camp. At home Lisa enjoyed gardening and visits from her grand fur-babies. She was an animal lover. Lisa loved to cook, and her family considers her a master chef, she could re-construct any recipe to superb tastes and textures. Through thick and thin, Lisa was the drawing light that brought family home. She was a problem solver and critical thinker. Her persistent and protective spirit will forever be felt by those she loved. In addition to her husband, Lisa is survived by four children, Nicole Buckles of Lancaster, Abby Buckles of Shillington, Shiron Hudson of Brownstown, and Shaquille Hudson of Lancaster; a grandson, Trey Hudson; Trey's mother, Kayla Witmer; two brothers, Matthew Smith of Elizabethtown, and Robert Smith of Winslow Twp. NJ; and many nieces & nephews.
