Melvin Lied

Remembering "Mel" with Love Respect... Melvin Lied, 82, of 20 Oak Lane, Reamstown, Lancaster County, died Wednesday morning at Ephrata Community Hospital following an operation at the hospital on Tuesday. Born in Red Run, Lancaster County, he was a son of the late Harry L. and Sallie (Hoffman) Lied, and was the husband of Anna M. (Stauffer) Lied, a resident of Maple Farms Nursing Center, Akron. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on August 29, 2002. Mel was the owner and operator of the former Lied's Upholstery, Reamstown, for 40 years. He was a member, Sunday school superintendent and elder of the former Faith Temple, Reamstown, and had last been active and attended the Reamstown Church of God. The 1992-93 Lion of the Year and 1998-99 Melvin Jones Award recipient, he was an active member of the East Cocalico Lions Club, Reamstown. Lied was also an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. Surviving in addition to his wife are 2 daughters, Patricia A. (Lied) Thorne, Downingtown, PA; and Carole L., married to Earl R. Gerhart, Stevens, PA; a son, Terry R., married to Deborah (Sheets) Lied, Glen Rock, PA; 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Grace (Lied) Rathman, a resident of Ephrata Manor, Ephrata, PA. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Sensenig, and 4 brothers, Russell, Ray, Harry, and D. Webster Lied. Visitation Services... Mel's viewing will be held on Sunday evening, August 24, 2003, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM from our parlors. The funeral ceremony will take place on Monday, August 25, 2003, at 11:00 AM from Reamstown Church of God, 57 East Church Street, Reamstown. Their will be no viewing on Monday at the church. Graveside ceremonies and burial will be held from Fairview Cemetery Annex, near Denver, Lancaster County, PA, on Monday afternoon at 2:00 PM. The family has requested that you not send flowers, but remember Mel with contributions to the East Cocalico Lions Club, Post Office Box 166, Reamstown, PA 17567-0166 or to the Building Fund of Reamstown Church of God, Post Office Box 293, Reamstown, PA 17567-0293.
