Merriell G. Moyer, Sr., 82, of Akron, PA, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, September 16, 2021. Born in Clay Township, PA, Merriell was a son of the late Elmer Moyer, Sr. and Jessie M. Harrell Moyer. Merriell attended Ephrata High School and worked at the former Eby Shoe Co., High Steel Structures, and most recently for the Schaad Detective Agency. He was a great provider for his family. An avid reader, Merriell enjoyed his Kindle and would often read about history and had a love for learning. Merriell was a skilled craftsman and loved working with his hands. He could make something out of nothing and had a passion for creating Folk Art with items that he salvaged. He loved going fishing and sharing time on the water with family. He was the best dad and loving husband and always had a great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Ruth A. Friedly Moyer; three daughters: Ruth, wife of Larry Young of Mooresville, NC, Susan, wife of Chris Zinn of Sinking Spring, PA, and Margery, wife of Wendell Messick of Ephrata, PA; one son, Merrill G. Moyer, Jr., husband of Jennifer, of Ephrata, PA; four grandchildren: Michael Antonson, Christie Zimm-McClary, Alish Moyer, and Gwendolyn Moyer; one great-granddaughter, Eden Lyons; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Merriell was preceded in death by four brothers: James, Elmer Jr., Franklin, and Armond. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
