Philip A. Riley

April 8, 1957 — July 6, 2024

Philip A. Riley, 67, of Akron, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Lancaster General Hospital in the loving presence of his family. Born in New York City, Phil was a son of the late Albert and Mary Riley and a devoted husband to Maria J. Mendieta-Riley. They shared 11 years together before getting married in 2006.


Phil worked for 17 years in Parts Sales at TriState. He enjoyed his work, the customers he served, and the friendships he developed with his colleagues. A Civil War enthusiast, Phil was a wealth of knowledge regarding the details of our American history. He enjoyed traveling all over the United States by car with his loving wife and he was very proud to have visited all of the Civil War battlefield sites. As a child, Phil started collecting baseball and football cards as well as United State coins. He was a proud American and enjoyed politics and national news. He also enjoyed watching sports; he was a Patriots and Cardinals fan. Phil had strong opinions and held true to his deep convictions, often sharing his views and knowledge with others. He also loved his cat, Phoebe. His family was very important to him, especially his stepchildren whom he loved dearly.


In addition to his wife, Phil is survived by his brother Joseph and his family, as well as his sister Linda and her family, all from Long Island, NY.; many nieces and nephews in New York; a stepson Carlos Moreno of Ephrata and a stepdaughter, Ariane Moreno of NJ. Phil was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.


Viewings will take place on Thurs., July 11th from 12 to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m. at Gravenor Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, Inc., 100 W. Main St., Ephrata. The Funeral Mass will be held on Fri., July 12th at 10:30 a.m. at OMPH Catholic Church, 320 Church Ave., Ephrata, PA.
