Remembering Pastor Gonzalez with Love... Rev. Jose A. Gonzalez, 74, 42 Funston Avenue , Reading , Berks County , died Thursday, November 22, 2007, at 10:10 PM in Reading Hospital Medical Center , West Reading , PA. Born in Cuamo, Puerto Rico, he was a son of the late Rafael and Fausta ( Santiago ) Gonzalez, and the husband of Nelly E. (Ortiz) Gonzalez, for 3 years. His first wife, Mildred K. (Stauffer) Gonzalez, died March 19, 2002. Jose came from Puerto Rico to East Earl in the early 50's and was a farm worker, then worked for Victor F. Weaver, Inc. He later owned and operated grocery stores in Pottstown, Lancaster Reading . A full time minister for over 20 years, he founded the Luz Verdadera Mennonite Church , Reading , and was the pastor of Luz Del Mundo Mennonite Church, Reading. He served as bishop and general secretary of the Hispanic Council of Churches of the Lancaster Mennonite Conference Mission Board, presiding over the Spanish Congregations. Also surviving is a daughter, Lucy E. Mercado, East Earl, PA; 4 sons, A. Ray (Emily Rolon) Gonzalez, Denver, PA; Jose R. (Evelyn Acevedo)Gonzalez, Reinholds, PA; David (Linda Negron) Gonzalez, Lititz, PA; and Danny (Amy Landis) Gonzalez, East Earl, PA; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandson; 2 step-daughters, Migdalia Gingrich, New Holland, PA; and Maritza Geist, Lancaster, PA; and 4 step-grandchildren. Viewing Funeral Service... Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at 11:00 AM from Bowmansville Mennonite Church , East Earl, PA 17519. Burial in adjoining cemetery. A viewing will be held at Good Funeral Home of Reamstown on Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM with a Spanish Meditation at 8:45 PM.
