Rev. Richard E. Spratlin

Rev. Richard E. Spratlin, age 80, of Clay Township, Ephrata, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, formerly of Gettysburg, died June 5, 2016, at 8: 00 PM athome with his family. Born in Medford, Massachusettes, a son of the late Robert J. and Emma E. (Heikel) Spratlin, his wife of 50 years, Nancy L. (Hurst) Spratlin, died March 28, 2010.He was a1953 Tottenville High School graduate, Staten Island, New York; received his bachelor of arts degree in 1962 from City University of New York City; and in 1966 his master of divinity degree from Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia. Having celebrated his 50th year of ordination he had served the Lutheran churches of Calvary(Bronx, NY), Christ (Montgomery, PA), St. Stephen (Lancaster, PA), Bender (Biglersville, PA), and was a member of St. Paul New Chester congregation, New Oxford, PA. A licensed nursing home administrator, he served the Germantown Home, Philadelphia, and the Allegheny Home, Johnstown, and was actively involved in numerous positions on boards and committees during his pastorate. Richard was a Korean War army veteran in the 11th Airborne Div. (Angels), 188th Airborne Infantry, and received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Award the Parachutist Badge. He volunteered at Ephrata Community Hospital and was a member of Ephrata Lions Club, loved golfing Zumba Gold. Surviving are his daughters, Maureen Ann, married to Keith D. Nichols, Ephrata; Karen L., married to Stephen M. Keener, York; granddaughters, Aimee Sohnleitner Alexandria Keener; and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Alyssa Zachary Maurer. A memorial celebration of Richard's life will be held on Saturday, June 11, at 3 PM from Good Funeral Home Cremation Centre, 34 N. Reamstown Rd., Reamstown, PA 17567.
