Robert L. Garman

Remembering "Bobby" with love... Robert L. "Bobby" Garman, 66, of 851 Clearview Avenue, Ephrata, Lancaster County, formerly of Reamstown, Lancaster County, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening at 9:52 PM in the emergency room of Ephrata Community Hospital. Born in Reamstown, he was a son of the late Martin T. and Margaret K. (Ansel) Garman, and was married to Sylvia D. (Zimmerman) Garman, for 7 years on December 8, 2002. His first wife, Louise S. (Matz) Garman, died June 10, 1990. He was a member and past councilman of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reamstown, where he was a chairman of the property and Christian education committees. Garman served as a corporal in the army during the Vietnam War. Bobby was past scout master of Troop 60 Boy Scouts of America, Reamstown, for 10 years; Served on the Eastern District Committee of Boy Scouts of America 6 years; Order of the Arrow of the Eastern District 2 years; received the District Award of Merit in 1979, the Scouter's Award and Scoutmaster's Key Award; and Webelos Leader of Reamstown Troop 2 years. Garman was a former fire chief, assistant chief, captain and lieutenant of the Reamstown Fire Company; and a deputy constable of the Police for Lancaster County 10 years. He was a house painter for 40 years, having worked for various painting contractors and was self-employed for many years. Bob was also a former part-time police officer for East Cocalico Township. Memberships include the Reamstown Athletic Association and the Sunflower Huntin Camp, Lycoming County. Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Scott J., married to Donna L. (Burkholder) Garman, Stevens, PA; a grandson; a step-daughter, Cherita L. M. Smith, Ephrata, PA; and 2 step-grandchildren. Viewing Service A viewing will be held on Friday evening, November 14, 2003, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at our funeral home. The funeral ceremony honoring Bob's life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2003, at 10:00 AM with The Reverend Stephen E. Hollinger officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Union Cemetery, Reamstown.
