Robert E. Nevling, age 87, of Stevens, Lancaster County, PA, died Wednesday, September 18, 2013, in Ephrata Community Hospital. Born in Portage, Cambria County, PA, on September 16, 1926, a son of the late Sherman and Rose (Stiles) Nevling, his wife, Sara M. (Holliday) Nevling, died August 3, 2008. A 1951 University of Pittsburgh graduate, he was a member of the honorary economics fraternity. Bob was a Korean & World War II Navy Veteran who"s greatest memory was watching from the deck of his ship (USS YMS 371), while the Japanese surrendered on the Missouri. He was a retired information systems manager for General Public Utilities, Reading, TMI, Middletown, & PA Electric Co, Johnstown for 39 years. An active member and past council president of Trinity United Methodist Church, Denver, Bob was also a member of East Cocalico Lions Club, Reamstown, receiving the Melvin E. Jones Award. He belonged to the Portage VFW and volunteered at Ephrata Manor. Living life to the fullest, spending time with family and helping others was Bob"s love. Surviving are children: Mary Jo Weaver, Denver; Ruth A. Nevling, companion of John Benedict, New Cumberland; Thomas G. Nevling, Lancaster; Edward R. Nevling, Stevens; grandchildren, James & fiancee", Jen; Sara, Reed and Ben. He was predeceased by a son, James B. Nevling, April 4, 1986, and brothers, Maurice, Donald and Millard. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 23, at 10 AM, from Trinity United Methodist Church, 420 Main Street, Denver, PA 17517, with his pastor, The Rev. Michael C. Roney, officiating. Burial with military honors in Ream-Reddig Cemetery, Reamstown. Viewing will be held Sunday from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM from Good Funeral Home, Reamstown, and at church Monday 9-10 AM. Rather than flowers, contributions in Bob"s memory may be sent to his church.
