Thomas Smathers

Thomas Edward Smathers, 79, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023 at the Lebanon VA Hospital. Born in McArthur, OH, he was the oldest son born to the late Thomas E. & Violet (Bentley) Smathers and the loving husband to Patricia L. (Brubaker) Rathman-Smathers for 26 years. Tom was a U.S. Army veteran then moved to Michigan and worked in Drywall Manufacturing. He later moved to the Ephrata, PA area in the early 90s and started his own tire business. Tom enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by three sons of Michigan, Herman Clark, Douglas Clark, and Michael Clark; two stepsons from Ephrata, Charles R. Rathman and Clayton L. Rathman; grandchildren and great grandchildren; ten sisters; and five brothers. Tom was predeceased by six sisters. Services for Tom are private.
