Virginia M. “Ginny” Lutz, 94, of Clay Township, passed away on Friday, February 7th, 2025, at the WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. Born in Reading, Virginia was the daughter of the late James & Anna (McCartan) Phillips. She was the loving wife of Gilbert J. Lutz for 63 years until his passing in 2013.
Growing up in Wyomissing, Ginny was a 1948 graduate of Wilson High School. Given that she was the oldest child in her immediate neighborhood, she quickly became everyone’s favorite babysitter. Her caring heart grew with her as she happily juggled helping her husband with administrative work for his construction contracting business, raising her family, and caring for her mother. To make sure that her family had everything they could ever need, Ginny would add odd jobs to her already busy schedule. Ginny was a member of the Our Mother of Perpetual Help (OMHP) Catholic Church for over 50 years. She formerly sang in the church choir and drove school buses for the OMPH school. Ginny never said no to a challenge and loved putting her heart into the work she pursued. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and volunteered her time for all their functions. Ginny participated in the March of Life from the beginning and advocated for life in all stages. Ginny was an animal lover, giving her heart to the dogs and cats she kept. She specialized in pen and ink artistry and enjoyed cooking. Ginny held a strong devotion to her faith. Her perfect mix of excellent work ethic and generous heart will be deeply missed by all.
Virginia is survived by three children, Bruce Lutz of Wernersville, Christine (Gary) Hummer of Birdsboro; Kelley (Daniel) Weidman of Ephrata; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; sister, Suzanne Ernesto of Shillington. Along with her husband and parents, Virginia is predeceased by a son, Michael Lutz; granddaughter, Michelle Lutz; and two brothers, James Phillips, Lt, Col. & Richard Phillips.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 14th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a funeral mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. at OMPH Catholic Church, 320 Church Ave, Ephrata, PA 17522. Virginia will be laid to rest at Gethsemane Cemetery.
