Walter "Jim" Eugene Lewis, 92, of Ephrata, PA, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, the day after he celebrated his 92nd birthday. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Dolores J. Lewis, who passed away June 24, 2017. Born in Ephrata Township, Walter was a son of the late Dorothy and Warren Royer, and Raymond Lewis. Walter graduated from Ephrata High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his service, Walter graduated from The Pennsylvania State University and returned to the Ephrata area. Walter worked at the Ephrata National Bank, Lambert Hudnut, Kline Chocolate, taught the Sixth Grade for one year, and then joined his parents in operating the Akron Restaurant. He was a lifetime member of Bethany UCC in Ephrata. In his later years, Walter volunteered at Highland and Clay Elementary Schools in the classroom of Marianne Beck. Walter was an avid golfer and member at Galen Hall Golf - Country Club. Walter is survived by three children: Susan A. Lewis of Ephrata, PA, David P. Lewis (Nancy) of Akron, PA, and James W. Lewis (Eleanor) of Lititz, PA; four grandchildren: Benjamin D. Lewis (Heather), Alexandra R. Lewis (Justin Dew), Tyler J. Lewis (Ashley), and Devin M. Lewis; five great-grandchildren: Cooper, Cameron, Fletcher Lewis, Evangeline Dew, and Cora Lewis; two half-sisters; and a niece, Shirley Morse (Richard). In addition to his wife and parents, Walter was preceded in death by a brother, Amos Lewis, a sister, Pauline Ibach, and a half-brother. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Bethany UCC, 140 E. Main St., Ephrata, PA 17522 with the Rev. Robin Keating officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 10:30 a.m. � 12:00 Noon. There will also be a time of fellowship and light refreshments after the service in the church's social hall. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Bethany UCC at the above address for the Deacons Fund; used to assist community need. 0
