Walter L. Good

Remembering Walter... Walter L. Good, 93, formerly of 101 Franklin Street, Reading, Berks County, died Sunday afternoon in the Berks Heim Annex, Bern Township, Berks County, where he had resided for the past 7 years. Born in Reamstown, Lancaster County, he was a son of the late John S. and Minnie (Leisey) Good. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Army during World War II having served in England, Germany, France and Belgium. Good was employed in the 1930's by the York Bar-bell Company, York, PA, doing promotional and educational weight lifting. He was a member of the 1936 United State Olympic Team as a Middle Weight Lifter. Walter and his two brothers, William L., Reamstown, and the late Harry L., were a well-known weight lifting performance team throughout the United States in the 1930's and also performed for the Queen of England of that period. He was also employed many years ago at the Textile Machine, Wyomissing. He founded the former Reading Bar-bell Company, West Reading, in 1950 and continued in business until the 1980's. Surviving in addition to his brother, is a sister, Mary Lehman, a resident of Ephrata Manor, Ephrata, 2 nieces and a nephew. Services The funeral ceremony will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2001, at 10:00 AM from our parlor with The Reverend Melvin H. Stehr officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services. Burial will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata.
