Walter Mazurkiewicz

Walter S. Mazurkiewicz, 80, of Ephrata, formerly of Reading and Gouglersville, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Lebanon VA hospital. Born in Reading, August 12, 1942, he was the son of the late Walter P. and Genevieve (Peplowski) Mazurkiewicz and loving husband of Joann (Decker) Mazurkiewicz. Walt was a life member of the Reading Polish Falcons, Clover Park AA, Gouglersville Fire Co. and a Former V.P. of the Reading Berks Basketball Assoc. He was also a member of the Kenhorst Fire Co. and American Legion Past 28, Oak Orchard D1. He was a PIAA Basketball official for 19 yrs. Walter was a 1960 graduate of Reading Central Catholic High School and Penn State Berks with an associate degree in electrical. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1963. Walt worked for the former Gilbert Assoc for 20 plus years. He last worked for Spotts, Stevens and McCoy, before retiring in 2008. He enjoyed saltwater fishing, high school and NCAA basketball and was a lifetime fan of the Phillies and Eagles. In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by his daughter Tracey Gundersen, husband Ed and Granddaughter Kaitlyn, Sister-in-law Ann Marie (Troilo) Mazurkiewicz, Nephew Robert and Nieces Debbie Carfagno and Michelle Wojciechowski. His sister Monica passed away in 2003 and brother Frank in 2018. A visitation will be held on Fri., April 21st from 10 to 11 am at Good Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, 34 N. Reamstown Rd., Reamstown (Stevens), Pa. A graveside service with military honors will immediately follow at Memory Gardens, Ephrata.
