William Cordes Jr.

William Cordes Jr., 83, of Denver and formerly of Cape May, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on September 30th, 2023. He passed peacefully at home with his loving wife of 54 years at his side.

William was born in Orangeburg, New York, the son of the late William Cordes Sr. and Cecilia (Cartlan) Cordes. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by three sisters, Cecilia Read, Wilma Camp, and Elaine Slamb.

William is survived by his wife Betty (Sockriter) Cordes; a daughter, Terry Cordes (Lai); a granddaughter, Megan Carlson (Charles); a step grandson, Chee Lai; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand- nephews, great-grand nieces, and great-grand nephews.

William loved farming first and foremost (since the age of 7) he owned and operated Rainbow Glad Farm in Cape May, growing Gladiolas, Tulips, Daffodils, and other flowers. William worked with Lower Township Police Department as a Special Officer for 20 years. He worked for 19 years for the Lower Township Public Works before he retired as a Heavy Equipment Operator.

William loved to spend time with his family and friends, traveling to 42 states, many countries, and visiting friends in England.

William enjoyed his role as “Papa” and being there for all the steppingstones like graduations and getting a license. William loved those around him, and his big heart will be missed.

A time of condolences will be held on Thursday, October 5th at 10:00 a.m. at Gravenor Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, Inc. 100 West Main Street in Ephrata followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
